Artist statement from the transgender individual who modeled for the cup:
My name is Astrid, She/They, and I am a transfeminine non-binary woman. Which is a lot of words to say "Not a man."
When my favorite pot dealer told me she wanted to put me on a mug, I was over the MOON. Having only come into my own regarding my identity in the last year and a half or so, I'm still not out to everyone, but the people I trust more than anything know, and I'm glad for it. This was a powerful step for me, and being able to look and feel beautiful on a piece of pottery that I know is also going to look beautiful is an exciting prospect.
Hug your trans friends. Listen to them. We have a lot to say.
